I am building a closed loop system powered by a Velocity T-3 (800 gph) using
http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/tank/closedloop.html as a rough
pattern.

The SCWD instructions mention pre-filtering the intake to prevent debris
entering yet I notice that most folks just run a regular piece of filter
intake or drill PVC as illustrated.
Using a 24 inch (capped on the bottom) section of flex PVC as my intake I
have drilled over 100 holes each an eighth of an inch in diameter.
Will this suffice? Both as providing enough flow for the above mentioned
pump *and* limiting debris infiltration? Do I need a "sock" of some sort
(sponge/or manufactured pre-filter material) over top this?

Also- the little metal hose clamps (worm clamps?)- may they be exposed to
sal****er? Not directly *in* the water, but say running right along the rim?
If this is not advisable are their plastic clamps available that I have not
yet found?

Thanks once again for the help- I'm getting there...

Stop by a shop that sells parts for watercraft, particularily fishing boats
and the like. You'll go nuts when you see all the water-resistant fasteners
and such.

Toni, that example you posted is my setup.

The numerous holes were not so much a filtering system as much as a protection
for my reeflings, so nothing go sucked against it and died. Anemones or
cucumbers would be a good example, because they can crawl right over it, and
with the many holes in the screen, the water is sucked in from the other side
and the creature has the ability to crawl away to its new destination.

You don't need a sock or sponge to filter it that much. But you also don't want
sand running through the innards, because it will affect the SCWD in a bad way,
as was shown on ReefCentral.com

For hoseclamps, if they are out of the water, you can use SS clamps. If you need
to use some in the water or near the surface, you should get some like these:

Duh.
Boy do I feel stupid.
I browsed and shopped that section for so long you'd think I would have
seen/remembered them.

Thanks- both for this and the website info you provide. I've copied so much
off of it that you should charge me. <NOT>
