I have a 110 gal freshwater with only 7 very small fish which are fed
infrequently. I use an anti-nitrate compound in the filter but algae is
runaway. Will a UV sterilizer help? Any tips?

Is the tank planted or not? If it's not planted you likely have too
much light. Try reducing the amount of light or the length of time the
lighting is on. If it's planted and well-lit, your problem is probably
inadequate fertilizers and CO2 so your plants can't outcompete the
algae. Check out the article on estimative index fertilizing on

To answer your question a UV sterilizer will only help with free floating
algae. It won't stop the stuff on the side of the tank or rocks.

Clean your filter.
Do it with fishtank water.
If you have an UGF or cannister this is most likely the cause.
Do a search for so called 'nitrate factorys'
