I am planning to purchase a pair of oscellaris clowns and a host for
them to live in in a 55g.fowlr. 260watts of light. My question is how
to acclamate the clowns and the host in a quarantine tank for a month?
I dont have adequate lighting for the quarantine tank. Should I
purchase good lighting for the tank? or possibly skip the quarantine??
thanks. Mirek

Are you getting a tank raised host or wild caught? If it is wild caught
I would suggest not even purchasing it let alone anything else. if it
is captive raised I would suggest upgrading your lighting and keeping
it in your quarantine tank with the clowns.

I was under the impression that oscellaris clowns don't host. I'd look at
true peculas. I have 2 and they host very nicely in my BTA.

I also have 260 watts of lighting. BTA holding strong for the past year.

You are not correct.

In the wild, every clownfish species lives inside some (or a few) species
of sea anemone. If some disaster befalls all the anemones in a certain
geographic area, all the clownfish in that area are quickly eaten.

That said, in home fish tanks either clownfish or anemones thrive just fine
without the other.

This may be your problem. The bubble-tip (Entacmaea quadricolor) isn't a
natural host for ocellaris clownfish, although there have been reports of
these pairing up in captivity. But you're much more likely to find success
if you match up the right species of clown to the right species of anemone.

Perculas and BTAs are a good match. Maroon clowns are an even better match
to BTAs.

Ocellaris clowns naturally host in carpet anemones, but those are tough to
get and keep.

THat is not true, all clowns in the wild host in an anemone. Some
clowns will host in more species of anemone than others but they all
host in at least one species.
