If anyone knows how to introduce the right algae onto dead rock (once live,
but now dead) it would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean pink, calcerous algae it will grow itself
if you keep the water quality good and you seed the tank
with a live rock in some reasonable quantities...

what do you mean add rock in reasonable quanities? I have been slowly
adding 5 lbs. of LR at a time to my 55g.

I mean adding one pebble will not help a lot.
More you add - it will repopulate quicker the rest of dead rock.
