Odd test results?

I just set up a 55gal tank, adding about a half gallon of water from an
established tank. A few hours later, the ph tested about 7.2 and the
nitrite tested 0. Can that be right? I thought cycling took a couple of
weeks.

Your aqauraium will not start cycling until you add fish, they eat and
poop... :) .

Add some filter media from your established aquarium to the new
aquarium's filter, and you'll minimize any cycling.

or add some ammonia. not ammonia and fish together, though.
