I have a 125 reef over 100 lbs fiji rock / 3" DSB and am curently
setting up a 40 gal sump. It will be put inline today sometime.
1 1/2 " overflow ( 800 gph ?) and a 3/4" mag12 for a return with a
ball valve inline to equal flow. there is also a Maxi 900 and well as
a powerhead 802 running
Question is Should I remove the Canaster Eheim 2217 ?

Had a friend that did the same thing, but he left his hooked up only as a
media box and used it the rest of the time empty in place of a powerhead.
He removed all filtering capacity from it so it wouldn't compete as a bio
filter. It will, of course on a small scale, because the bacteria will grow
in the tubing and on the other interior flow surfaces, but he likes the
convenience when he uses carbon and purigen.

But if you don't want it for that, then dump the sucker (pumper?) It's not
needed, IMO.

you can keep the eheim & only run it periodically as a clarifier.
just be sure to clean it frequently. or you can run it constantly &
clean it even more frequently.
