Folks,

Just thought I would drop the group a quick note as a
new Reef has recently been created.

Please feel free to check out

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ian.sargent/

It's very early days but things appear to be going well
for a Reef that is only a month old.

Regards
Ian

Hi Ian,

Regarding this picture:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ian.sargent/photos/unknown1a.jpg

The coral is a Caulastrea, which is commonly referred to as Candy Cane. The
lifeform on the back side of that LPS (Large Polyped Stony coral) is an Aptasia,
and you don't want these in your tank. Do a little research on how to kill
them.

Looks good so far, nice site.

Marc

Mark,

Thanks very much for your reply.

I have been advised already and have given them (I discovered
a send one on the Candy Cane yesterday) a good dose of Kalc
so hopefully I will see the end of them, but if not I'll just keep on
at them.

Yes, I have also been advised of the Candy Cane but NOT the
fact that it's latin name is Caulastrea. Although I am not 'into'
Latin it is nice to know it's 'proper' name.

By the way, I have been to your site a few times over the last
couple of months - VERY nice and some GREAT photo's.
As Arnie said, 'I'll be back'!

Once again, thanks very much.

Regards
Ian

Here is a page of my Caulastrea that I bought last December.

http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/tank/caulestria.html
and
http://www.melevsreef.com/id/caulastrea.html

Last April, I was in the hospital for a week and my coral was stung horribly by
red mushrooms and was really dying. I moved it to my 55g where it has been ever
since. Several times I thought about just pulling it out, but it has been
hanging in there. I say it, because only one head or polyp survived from that
pair, and it is still very very small.

Perhaps I should get a small colony that looks like yours instead. ;)
