View Full Version : Old DAS revamp

Has anyone any experience with revamping and remodeling the older model DAS tank with the "glued in" filter box and square airstone "box skimmer", and I use the term skimmer in it's loosest sense. lol

I'm interested in removing the box entirely and converting to a sump. Anyone done this or have insight in this matter?

All input appreciated.

yep i've done it on a stocked tank, i had the version with the power driven venturi, basically i used a wood shim slid between the box and glass to shear it off, once i got all the silicon off and the box out i had to trim the plastic on the top rim of the tank for an overflow box.

Did you use one shim or multiples, down the side?

That must have been a chore on a stocked tank!

i used about 2 or 3 , when i was half way down i used the upper ones as wedges, my biggest fear was the stress on the tank itself , but it worked out.... thinking now it wasn't bad but i'm sure i was swearing when i actually did it :) but it is feasable

Wow, i didn't have a problem at all, but i used wood shims i could see where
the silicone was holding it so i sliced it through those points, more
cutting through the silicone then just simply forcing it off.....
