..... to plumb your first tank/sump set-up?

How many trips to Home Depot?

I just spend two and a half days doing mine- included building a three
chambered sump out of a 55 gallon tank and designing a closed loop/SCWD
system. Three trips to HD.
Longer than I anticipated but I'm happy with my results.

I have posted a few very basic start-up photos here
http://www.cearbhaill.com/reef.htm
The page is mostly so my Mom can follow the process long distance, but you
are welcome to sneak a peak as well.

Thanks for everyones help- this ng is a most unusual/helpful piece of
Usenet.

looks really good :) Where did you get your plans for the fuge modification?
I have never converted a tank into a sump but have a 40 acrylic that I want
to transform.

Hi Toni,

That is really funny reading your post. I've spent a lot of time at Home Depot
myself. Here's a tip:

Buy all the pieces you need, PLUS extras. Come home, build and rebuild to your
hearts delights. When you are done, pick up all the extra pieces and throw them
in your trunk. Next time you are near HD, just get a refund on the unused
parts.

Last time I was in there with a plumbing project, I was building the return line
for my 55g's sump, and that closed loop system for my SCWD on the 29g. It was a
maddening process trying to make sure I had all the parts I needed. It probably
took me 1.5 hours to get all the parts, as I laid them out in the shopping card
in the configuration (like a jigsaw puzzle) they would eventually become.

I came home that night and built both. I actually didn't have to make another
trip to HD and was able to get them installed. :) However, I did measure wrong
one time, and it didn't fit and it is reeeeeally tough pulling apart PVC once
glued. Hmmm. now that I recall, I didn't measure the pipe wrongly, I measured
and cut it correctly. I just picked up the wrong piece (the cut-off) during
assembly. Dumb!

I'm glad that helped you. That was the exact reason that page was put
together, so people could understand that concept a little more easily.

I returned over $38.00 worth of PVC fittings this week <g>.
The lady at the return counter nearly fainted when she looked into the bag.

It's not that I shopped badly- I just didn't know what I might need so I
bought three of everything.

you will never be finished, you only finish the current task, then something will come up
and you will need to re plumb everything.
the people at homedepot will begin to know you by name:) and you will begin to know which
ones know the products and which ones need to use the name tag on there shirt to identify
themselves.
