I have a cute cellophane female betta and she is totally putting the rest of
the guys to shame with her nesting prowess! What gives? LOL She was in a
"community" tank with a couple of other females when I got her (got another
female from the same tank, not one bubble from her) but dang she's a little
bubble nest blowing fool lol. Oh and attitude! She'll flare with the best of
them. The other females I have are darker and I can see the stripes, but
with a cellophane, detecting an egg spot and stripes is difficult. Anyone
else with a similar experience?

Are you sure this is a female and not a short-fin male? I've had bettas for
years and years and never saw a female make a bubble nest.

They're just, um, confused.

Maybe! :-) I've had really nice males over the years that never made
bubble nests either. It just may be the individual fish themselves. I
wonder of these bubble building females would try to entice a male under
their nests to breed and if the male would?!?!?!

Hormonally confused since I read it's testosterone that pushes the male fish
to make his nest. A female with that much male hormone would probably not
be a good breeder.

That's an interesting question, especially as the male ordinarily chases
the female away after the eggs are laid. I think I'd agree that it
sounds like a bad breeder.
