It is one of the Arius catfishes. Your shop was wrong, and the info you
have found by yourself is close to correct. You have better to take the
fish back to shop. Don't buy anything living there without checking all the
facts first, as you really can't trust their advice.

Liisa, thnx this is what we thought. however I am new to the fishy seen and
really don't know what is going on. my wife has had fish in her life and I
am really starting to get into it. again thnx for the advice we will
probably put it in with the gold fish and call it ronald.

Please don't. Well, that "Ronald" part is ok but that putting with goldfish
isn't. Arius catfishes can live in freshwater just when they are young;
they soon start needing brackish eater and when adult, they should live in
full seawater. It just won't be happy with goldfish. If you are not going
to set up a large marie tank in near future, give this catfish away or put
it down.
