Hi, All
My LFS (90 miles away) has a serpent star but says it will eat all the good
guys in my LS...Is this right? I can find no reference to it on the sites,
only good remarks.
Thanks,
Dan

I'm curious what your LFS classify as the "good guys" ...
I have a serpent star (2, actually ... one was a hitchhiker on some live
rock) and have no problems.

IF it is a Green serpent star, then it will terrorize our tanks

I have a green serpent star, I've caught him in the act of eating 2 of my
snails, and suspect him in the disappearance of a couple fish over the last
year.

My serpent star is green, and although I do have empty snail shells
sometimes, I don't have any problems. I direct feed it a couple times a
week, and at night I usually find him seeking out the bits of food that fall
into the hard to reach places.

serpent stars are known to jack up there bodies and consume un suspecting fish. feeding
regularly will offset this desire to eat.

Green Serpent or Brittle Stars are definetly predators. They will eat
anything they can fit in their mouth. Anybody who says otherwise is
simply wrong. I've seen it happen. I also caught a big one that's
body was contorted to the exact shape of my missing oscellaris clown
fish.
Took him back to the store. He measured 12" from tip to tip. About
3" when I bought him the year before.

I own a Green Serpent Star, and really have had no problems. In fact, one of
the crabs have snipped some of the legs off of the star at some point, so
the guy is definitely not the bully of the tank.
I direct feed a couple times a week, and as I mentioned in a past post I do
have empty snail shells at times, but I never really thought it was the
serpent star until this thread started. Never lost a fish or a shrimp (have
3 peppermint shrimps who go by the serpent star all the time).
Am I just lucky? I'm torn on what to do because most people are saying that
this is a really bad critter for the tank, but so far my star has been fun
to watch and does get to the uneaten pieces of food that drops to the bottom
of the tank.
