View Full Version : question about sumps

Years ago (all most 40) I had a sal****er tank with reef and all. I
remember what a bear it was 'cause all most no one kept coral but I did
it for about five years then had to move on to other things.
I am starting a new tank in the spring and have been reading what I can
find and I have noticed there are "one or two" changes over the years.
However There seems to be no mention about using sumps for the bulk of
your filtering. Is this "old timer stuff" now or have I missed it some
where.
Thanks

Ed - I think most people are using sumps and/or refugium setups for
filtration and to hide all of the pumps, heaters, skimmers, dosers and
everything else possible, in a cabinet.

Yes, most people are using sumps, and many have gone to using refugiums.
Here are a few good web sites you should check out:

http://jjgeisler.com/reeftank/55g_sump-refugium2.htm

I hope this helps.

When setting up a reef tank of a decent size, sumps are a
given. Everyone that knows what they are doing sets up a
reef tank with a sump. The only acception, would be a
small tank.
