View Full Version : Feeding shell dweller fry

I noticed a shellie fry (N. brevis) at the front of my tank tonight, about 3
inches away from the parent's shell, which they are guarding fiercely. At
the moment it is still within the protection zone, but if it wanders much
further I don't hold out much hope for it's chances as the unpaired trio are
circling.

Anyway, this is great timing for the appearance of fry as I just happen to
have an experimental microworm culture on the go. The question I have is,
how do I get the worms to the fry (I am optimistically assuming there are
more fry being guarded inside the shell)? I dropped some into the tank where
they spread around in the water and was surprised to see that the adults
seemed to be snapping them up and enjoying them, but I'm sure very few ended
up in the shell.

How do I get the food to the fry, or I trying to feed them too early and
should I wait to see more fry?

Thanks for any advice on this or on mircoworms in general.

============================
How about gently shooting them there with an eyedropper? Also, turn down
the current of your filter. You don't want a current flushing them all over
the tank.
