View Full Version : Bug Eyed Goldfish doesn't eat!

November 17th 05, 05:52 AM
Hello,
I just bought two goldfish the other day. One was a regular goldfish
and the other was one of those bug eyed ones. Anyway, the pet store
advised me to buy sinking small pellets. Well, they don't really sink
at all. The regular goldfish just goes to the surface to eat, but the
bug eyed goldfish always stays near the bottom of the tank. Sometimes
it scourages rocks as if searching for food. I haven't seen him go up
near the top of the tank, let alone even eat anything. I understand
you should soak the food in water so it sinks, but I fear that will
cloud the water. What should I do?

I think it's too soon to worry. Give the bug-eyed fish a few more days
to a week so it can have a chance to acclimate to the food. It's not
going to starve in that amount of time. You can also try stimulating
it's interest with some live brine shrimp. If a fish always stays at the
bottom of the tank, though, it's possible it could have problems with
it's swim bladder so keep an eye on it's behavior.
