View Full Version : Impressed with Jebo mini-tank

I just thought I'd post a brief review of my new Jebo R338.

At home, I have a 200L (48ish gallon, for those older, or yankee folk)
tank with all the goods, and it's simply humming along. Plants, fish,
all healthy... breeding and thriving.

Given that I spend an inordinate amount of time at work, not getting to
enjoy my hobby, I decided that I needed a small tank in my office. As
aesthetic appeal is important (I didn't want a mass of leads, hoses,
etc) I decided on an all-in-one unit from Jebo. The one I bought is
their second smallest variety (I think), at around 40L (8 Gal?). It has
a curved glass front, and a silver hood (though there are other colours
available). (There's a small picture here->
http://202.21.128.20/photoserver/53/10395653_full.jpg)

The unit has a tricke filter system built into the hood, including an
easily cleaned filter mat and whisper-quiet powerhead (with ventruli
attachment for extra aeration). There's also some ceramic pieces for
bacterial cultivation. There are two mini-flourescent lights in the
hood as well, which give plenty of light.

My LFS even has one set up as a nano reef tank, with a couple of clowns
in it (which delighted my kids, being big "nemo" fans). I'm
contemplating getting one for home to try a small reef setup myself.

Overall, I found this excellent value at $129 from my local market
(Aussie dollars. I have seen prices from $129 to $185) and highly
recommend it for anyone who needs a quarantine tank, office tank, kids
bedroom setup, etc. etc.

Looks very similar to the Hagen Waterhomes, but Waterhomes only come in
plastic 2, 3 and 5g, and only the 3 and 5 have a single fluorescent
light.

I actually have a set of Jebo catalogues as I was in discussion with them
to be their Canadian distributor (before I got out of the fish trade). I
didn't realize their R338 was glass. Looks like plastic in their book
(it's not the greatest catalogue but they have some really neat products.
I hope there is a Canadian retailer soon as I'd love to see their UR9168A
(as a planted room divider), or an R1210 wall tank (with trickle
filtration built into the canopy). Unfortunately, a lot of their stuff
looks a little *too* similar to existing equipment from Eheim and
Marineland, so there might be some issues coming to North America ;~).

Although I have several Eclipse systems, my new favorite is shown here (it
works great for planted freshwater):

PS

The link to the ten tips for small aquarium success is well-written.

All of these all in one tanks have problems with marine.
Salt creep gets into the lights and eventually shorts them out.
WOrk for a while but it's only a matter of time usually..........

I have a 29 gallon Jebo fully enclosed with built in filtration. It
has been up and running for 2 1/2 years. Very easy to care for. I
find the rounded front corners attractive. One negative, the tank
runs hotter in the summer than my other tanks. Oh, one other
negative, it is hard to get to the back of the tank. I have to
balance the light box carefully, the light wires run through the
filter box, also awkward for scrapping the glass. At least on the
model I have, the hatches are a bit narrow for my fat arm (not).

You remind me of one other problem I have had with the Jebo 29 gallon,
where moisture seeps out of the seams, there are white mineral
deposits.
