New Fish Room Question

I'm slowly moving toward a fish room. One question I can't seem to find
anywhere....how much space should I allow above tanks on each shelf/row of
tanks to get a net in to gather fish?

Eight inches. If you are keeping small fish and you have thin arms, six
inches may do. If you have larger fish and/or large rockwork or large
driftwood, then ten inches might be better, otherwise eight seems to be a
good average.

Another possibility is to stair-step the tanks. I don't like very low tanks.
I have some stands with 29 tanks on the bottom narrow end viewable with 20H
tanks above. My 20's are also end forward. I have some stands with 55s on
the bottom, and 40Ls above. These are stair stepped with the bottom of the
40 at the same level as the top of the 55s

You could also try to cascade the tanks.
For example, the lower level tanks would be 6 or so inches out in front of
the upper level tanks.
This way, you will have full vetical access to the front 6 inches of evey
lower level tank and it will also reduce the extended reach for the upper
level tanks.
