My 10 gal tank with a 6-8" goldfish in it has turned cloudy over the
last three days. It's been running for 6months or so and has never
done this before.
Your thoughts?

A few large partial water changes should help. It may be time to buy a
larger tank for your fish. GF pass a lot of waste and are very active fish.

Hi Larry,
Have I read this right? Six 8 inch goldfish in a 10 gall? Almost
certainly too many fish....I'd be inclined to try and rehouse these fish
if they are this large - either put them in a pond (might not be the
right time of year for this), try and trade them in at your LFS or go
out and buy a much bigger tank....
Water changes will help until you decide on a long term plan

Gill - I think Larry means he has ONE 6-8 inch goldfish in a 10gal.
Still a little small, so that might be the cause of you cloudiness...

As others have posted, that's a pretty big fish for 10 gallons. Is that
the body length only, or are you counting the tail? Also as others
posted, a couple of good water changes over a few days will help reduce
any water quality problem that currently may exist.
A bigger aquarium might help, or at least better filtration. Also be
careful not to overfeed, which would pollute the water. Are you using a
filter? If so, be aware to preserve the bacteria, so don't throw out the
media but rinse it instead...

I took it to read one 8" goldfish. I assume he's including the tail. The
tank is too small for even one GF of that size.

Larry,
First off, you need a larger tank for that poor Goldfish.
A 10g is fine for when they are younger, but when they reach this size,
they really need to be housed in a much larger tank.
For just the single Goldie, uprage to a 29g. Better yet, get a 40+
gallon tank and get him one buddy. If you wanted more than one buddy,
go larger than a 40g.
Also, you made no mention of your water change schedule.
How often, and what % is changed?
It amazes me that people don't realize how large those little fat
wobblers can get, as well as how much larger a tank they need compared
to most community fish.
(Not saying you didn't, just a general comment).

I know a larger tank would be better. The little guy started out in a
3g(from original owner) then to a spare 5g then to the 10g that was
once enought room. I need to convince my wife(her fish left over from
her workplace) that a bigger tank is what "Bubbles" really wants for
Christmas .

Perhaps carol aka koi lo was washed her nasty butt in your tank...sure
would account for it being cloudy.
