Because it's a **troll** silly. They INTEND it to be offtopic. It's
done that way intentionally, and when you reply to every single group
like you just did, the troll WINS.

Newb asks silly ?, Newb gets answer. (I should have just shut up.)

Hey, if you don't ask, you'll never shed the newb status. :)

The only way to deal with trolls is to limit your reaction to reminding
others not to respond to trolls.

Perhaps we should mention this in the aquaria FAQs.

I am lost about this "troll" and "cross posting" issue. What is
happening that is so threatening?

I don't like "off topic" when there are attack and pornographic posts,
but I see little of that in our newsgroups. I get lots more of that
everyday in my emails.

Hi Dick,

The threatening part is when let's say, you respond on the negative
side to someone who is posting in our ng about something like
" repent, the end of the world is near". It gets sent back to
whatever group this person came from. Then everyone on that group
gets all uppity and posts in response to you. And the the flood
begins. Your killfile will be full in no time. This happened to rec.
ponds.

Hope this clarifies the issue of crossposting and the possible threat
if the postings are not kept to aquarium issues. LIKE THIS ONE ;-)
