hello all, i'm loseing the fight against this stuff.every weekend i'm
siphoning this crap out of my 180, and about 4-5 days the stuff is makin
a comeback. i remove it from the substrate & LR then the tank looks good
4 a while but it's right back in no time. i feed every other day, only 4
small reefsafe fish,additives-- once a month-iodine,stront/moly,drip
kalk nightly, trace elements, thats it. my pc lights are on for 8 1/2
hrs. is there any thing that i could increase/decrease to curb this and
hopefully get rid of it. thanks

Emerald Crabs eat it. Usually valonia grows rather thickly and rigid, to where
you can pry it off and remove it manually. I've never been able to just siphon
it out.

this sounds more like cyano "slime" then bubble algae to me. like Marc said
valonia is stuck to what ever it grows on and is a PITA to get loose without
popping the bubble. i myself let it grow and keep working with it until i
can remove it without popping it. as it gets bigger it's easier to get out
that way.
if its the red slime type algae that holds the nitrogen bubbles in it on
your substrate then they make a 'suposed to be' reef safe chemical to rid
the tank of it. if memory serves me its called 'slime away' or something
like that.

Chemi Clean by Boyd Enterprises, Inc.... It works nicely in my tank (used once).

The only method that worked for me - kick-butt skimmer and RO/DI filter.
