What is the safest way to clean a used reef tank that's been sitting empty
for awhile? Just warm water? I'd like to make sure it's real clean without
leaving any harmful residure. Thanks.

some would recommend vinegar, in small proportions.

I have always used chlorox.never had a problem if its rinsed and
allowed to dry, any traces of the chlorox will be gone within 24
hours, and what is not gone if yur in a hurry will be removed by
dechlor water treatment. To remove deposits of mineral buildup lemon
juice or vinegar works fine......

Acetic acid (chemical name for defining ingredient of vinegar)
evaporates completely leaving no residue and therefore, is
useful in cleaning fish tanks in any concentrations. Stronger
acid you will use the faster your work will be completed.

Just make sure you work in well ventilated area and flush
the tank with a lot of tap water or let it dry completely.

If your not afraid, use hcl acid (use outside), and water,
otherwise, use vinigar.
