Moving goldfish

Hello,
There is a strong chance we're going to be moving from California to
Colorado. I am not 100% sure yet but since there is enough chance I'm doing
my homework now.
My 5 yr old has a pet goldfish he's had for almost 2 years. Not taking him
with us is not an option.
Can anyone direct me to some good instructions on how to make the trip. We
will be driving as we also have 2 cats, 2 beta fish and a 29 gallon tank
that I'm trying to figure out how to move. Luckily we have a mini-van.
Anything anyone can offer will be a big help. Thank you!

I'd get a five gallon bucket, about half full of water, some plants
(egeria) and a battery opperated air pump.

The car temperature will probably be satisfactory for the fish, I
would guess you'll stop along the way, bring the fish in with you.
It's cold outdoors now.

I've used picnic coolers to transport fish, and also those styrofoam
bins that the fish store receives stock in. As another poster mentioned,
it's cold out. The battery air pump is also a good idea, but I don't
know the length of your move. Mine was 500 km/ 6 or 7 hours.

Get a gallon plastic milk jug, cut hole in the handle top just big enough
for the air tube, from the battery operated pump for movement of water. If
you can't find pump, go with changing 1/2 water every night. Only fill jug
1/2 full so they have air space. Bring water in 2nd jug to change each day.

My daughter did this for my grandkids 3 fantails, when they moved to Arizona
from Kansas and they did fine.
In fact they laid eggs when they got here, and had 3 babies live! KathyAZ

According to mapquest it's about a 16 hour drive. We'll be driving at least
2, maybe 3 days because we'll have to stop for all the afore listed pets
(and aquatic plants) as well as the 5 year old and 2 year old kids that will
also be making the move. Everyone will come into the hotel with us at night
so I can change water etc as needed.
I like the idea of the milk jugs and then put those into a cooler for added
safety, (and so the car doesn't spell too much like fish tank the whole
drive....my 5 year old will freak!). I'm going to have to ask my neighbors
if they get their milk in jugs, we drink soy milk and it doesn't come in
jugs.
Does anyone know about those coolers that you can plug into a car outlet?
Would those work or would the temperature not be right? Of course, it
wouldn't work when the car isn't on.

Honestly I'm hoping to not have to make the move, but I'm getting prepared
anyway.
