Hi all. Just wanted to pass along info on a product I used that is
amazing!!

My 55 gallon tank has always had clear water. I do a partial water
change every week becuse I have two large koi in it and they are MESSY
fish. Last week, I noticed the water getting cloudy and within a few
days it was like the London Fog! I couldn't figure out what was causing
this since I hadn't changed anything in the routine. I spoke to the
"fish dude" as I call the very helpful guy at my local pet center. He
said that well water (which I am using) this time of the year could be
the cause of it, causing a bacteria bloom. He suggested this
product...Acurel F. It cost less than $5.00

The directions are add 2 to 4 drops per gallon directly into the tank. I
tried the 2 drops dosage. Within a couple of hours I could see the water
clearing up. Late last night I did another treatment of 2 drops per
gallon and this morning my tank is CRYSTAL CLEAR, dazzling in fact!

So, if you have cloudy water in your tank (or pond) for whatever reason,
Acurel F will clear it up. Hope you all find this info helpful :-)

A few comments. I loved your website. :-) I too am into dollhouses and
have 2 large Greenleaf ones at the moment, made from kits. I love the
Victorian style. One house is from the 1980s era and the other from the
1920s era.

As for your fish. I hope you have at least a 800g outdoor pond to put your
koi in when they outgrow your aquarium. Koi will get as long as 3' (yes
that's three feet!) with good care and proper feeding. They pass a lot of
waste. The cloudy water is probably because your filter isn't adequate for
such large fish in only 55g of water. More water changes would also help.
I personally don't use anything to clear cloudy water. I feel that's like
putting a Band-Aid on a skin cancer. It's not getting rid of the underlying
problem.

I made a mistake on the years of my dollhouses. I meant one is 1880s, not
1980s. :-)

They will still grow large unless you stunt (starve) them. That will
shorten their lives and they wont be very pretty.

I love my koi. I have a 2000g and an 800g pond out front. Both have koi,
mostly butterfly koi. Behind the house I have an 600g pool of their fry to
cull this spring. I plan to slowly replace all the short-fin koi with the
butterfly type.

One is a butterfly I see. They need a lot more space then that. What will
you do in another year when they're twice that length? Can you set up one
of those 150g child's pools from Wal*Mart in your home somewhere for them?

I had taken a look at your webpage. Sounds like you lost a lot of fish!
That's a shame!! If I lived in an area that had so many predators I
would have netted my pond first thing so they wouldn't become dinner....

Should my koi get really too big for the current tank (showing stress,
any signs of disease etc) I will move them to a friend's pond that is
over an acre in size. They will have many buddies :-)

I posted here to share information on a product that really clears up
cloudy water. I have seen so many posts over the years from frustrated
people who couldn't get their tanks clear.

Now, if you have fish with sores, ulcers, any kind of fungus and
bacteria disease, buy some Binox (from Jungle Laboratories) Do a 25%
water change, add the powder to the tank, wait four days and do another
treatment. Two or three treatments may be needed until all signs of
disease are gone but they will be gone and your fish won't die.

Happy holidays to all. Might post again next year if I have something
good to share :-)

We didn't know about all the predators at first. We learned fast. :-( All
my ponds and pools are now tightly netted.

How would you ever catch them in such a pond? A 55g tank is only suitable
for about 5 adult goldfish.

That was nice of you actually. But to get to the "root" of the cloudiness
is the better choice I believe.

Acurel F----I have used this a few times. I found it to work, but do
not over use it. It took me a while to filter it out of the water. You
should find out how to fix the problem and not depend on Acurel-F as it
is a short term fix.

sudden cloudy water is usually an indication that the biofilter crashed. I have even
had my tanks go cloudy when I forgot to plug in the heater after doing a cleaning and
water change. changing the bio bags that often may not be a great idea if that is
the mainly where the bio bugs form their colonies. as the koi get larger you may
find them jumping out of the pond. Ingrid
