Hi
My Dwarf Gourami had identical white sores on either side of his
body....just behind the gills & fin. He
was behaving normally, but they got bigger over a few days. Initially I
thought he
had scraped himself till I noticed it was on both sides.
They look like something trying to get out....X-files like.
His body looked a bit swollen on each side too,
Sadly he died the next morning. I am keen to find out what it was, but so
far all the other fish are healthy.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Julie

I'm taking a wild guess here. It sounds like dropsy or the start of
pinecone disease. He died before really swelling up. I'd like to know what
others think.

The scales were not sticking out.....odd that the "growths" were in
identical places on each side....almost as if something was trying to break
out.

Hi Julie,
I'm not sure how long you have had this dwarf gourami but from what I
have heard and read they are not the most disease resistant of fish.
I've been quite lucky and actually used them to cycle a tank (seeded
from another tank)...the response from this ng was that I must have had
a lot of luck to do this. This article from PFK might help you
understand a bit better:-

They are great little fish but not the easiest...I'm pretty sure it was
just one of those things...
Sorry for your loss :-(

If something is trying to break out I would again suspect a parasite almost
without a doubt. Good luck and later!
