View Full Version : Which lights to get?
December 22nd 05, 04:07 AM
A friend of mine has given me a PC lighting fixture after he bought a
bigger tank. It needs new lamps, but is in working order otherwise. It
takes 2 55W lamps. Should I make one of those white and the other blue,
and what spectrum?
This is going over a 29 gallon which I hope to keep soft corals in,
maybe some mushrooms, and hopefully a bubble tip anemone.
Thanks,
Mark

I'd suggest a 10000K daylight, and a blue actinic 03. If they can be
put on separate timers, have the actninic come on 1/2 hour before the
10000K, and go off 1/2 hour after.
http://www.hellolights.com is a good online store for bulbs.

Hellolights is a good source for bulbs, and I too would go with a 10K
and 03 or put 50/50 in each of them.......IMHO Sunpaq brand of bulbs
made by Current USA makes a great bulb. There are a lot of bulbs sold
out there that are good, but when compared to Sunpaqs, there is a
noticeable difference in output and color. Comparing a Sunpaq brand
96 watt quad to a Coralife bulb is like night and day, but alone
without comparison the coralife looks fine......compare em side by
side and its a different story. Drs. Foster & Smith had sunpaq and
other brand bulbs on special and still may have em on special yet.....
