Hello!
Okay, I'm used to adding supplements for the cichlids and plants in my
fresh water tanks. So, what do I need (if anything) for a new tank with
live sand and live rock?
The live sand (40#) and aragonite bed (40#) are in the tank now and the
ammonia is just starting to show. I'm planning to buy and add the live
rock tomorrow after a 20% water change.
Also, are there any supplements/chem manufacturers I should be avoiding?
Thanks,
mark h

I would not add anything to a tank especially a new tank until its
matured, and then, I would only add what it needed and only if I could
test for it. You can waste (IMHO) your money on all kinds of
supplements that make exhorborant claims to perform miracles etc, or
spend your money wisely and only add what is actually needed. If yor
going to have corals etc and you want your liverock to look better, I
owuld get my calcium and Alk levels up to where they should be, and do
nothig more than keep the PH, Alk, Cal, SG levels were they are
suposed to be, and make sure your ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels
are also where they should be, and just set back and wait.Sal****er
setups are not fast responders and mature out much more slowly than a
freshwater system. Sinc eyouur now just adding live ro9ck (cured?
uncured?) I would not even add any calcium to attain levels needed
until tank is fully cycled.
Do not add anaything that you do not have a test kit for. If a
supplement you may decided to add for some reason or other does not
have a list of specific ingredients on its label, it is best to bypass
that supplement since you have no idea what it contains or what to
test for...........

yeayh, look forward to not addming much at all, thats teh beauty of a reef,
you can make it become self sustaining. Take this slowly, cycle it properly,
and you will be very thankful
