I was wondering if it is possible to keep guppies in a tank without a
filter?

Thanks,
Mariachi

sure, not too many guppies (try that for a while) and a large enough
tank. Put lots of plants in there to suck up the waste products from
the fish, and water changes to remove what the plants don't.

why would you want to do it, though? The filter is there to make
things easier.

Well originally I got a crayfish and had ideas of keeping guppies with
him and sort of having the guppies reproduce/get eaten and keep the
popuplation balanced. But the crayfish just keeps killing everything so
that's not going to work. But I keep looking at guppies and do want to
keep some and am thinking of getting like a smaller tank (I have a 2ft
tank for the cray) for guppies and I didn't really want to spend that
much money...but then again a filter isn't that expensive so I might
reconsider the filter option. Thanks!

sponge filters are quite inexpensive. they work well.

while we are discussing guppies, I should make my obligatory
recomendation that you look into Endler's lifebearers.

A couple years is about average, it depends on a lot of things,
temperature being one. Fairly short lived, but they make more. They
are a special kind of guppy, or something closely related to guppies,
the jury is still out. They seem a bit hardier than guppies, at least
the pet shop over bred kind.
