Is it normal for a sebae anemone to shrink to about 1/3 the size from early
in the morning to about 30 minutes after the lights go on?
From what I'm reading I'm cruel to have a sebae as my first anemone because
I'm inexperienced...I was experimenting with water flow direction today and
the sebae kinda shrunk up into a small little thing...any ideas? It also
turns out I have a white one, that doesn't live very long..shucks...
TIA

they will 'shrink' to exchange their internal water as well as to expell
waste.
it is not common for them to do on a regular basis.
they will retract a great deal if you disturb them, such as when you
redirected the water flow, or if you touch them.
99% of the time my Sebae is fully expanded and soaking in the sun.
FWIW most all Sebae's are white when the come in from shippment (either
online order or to the LFS) and with proper conditions you can nurse a
healthy one back to 100% in no time. what size tank and type lighting do
you have? and are you feeding it?

John,
Anemones are hard to care for, period. A white one has expelled its
zooanthellae, or symbiotic algae within its tissue. If kept in decent
conditions and fed, it can regain the lost algae and will become a golden/tan
color.
Don't handle it, and feed it a very small amount of meaty food. Like a 1/2 cube
of Formula One frozen food.

33 gallon w/192w pc, 10000k/actinic.
I need to get food for it..all I have (right now) is mega marine by
hikari..I'll bring something meaty home from work tomorrow, I was told not
to feed it and just let it acclimate for a couple days...it was chewin on
something a few hours after I put it in..I think it took some spongey stuff
off my live rock and ate it. Is krill ok? we have this little package for
inverts, it's in tiny cubes and it feels rather rubbery..i can't remember
what company it is though..i think it's the same as marine one...i'll know
tomorrow.
he's small right now, but all his tentacles are still fat, and a few stringy
ones, but he's wavin in the water current...I don't know if I'll be able to
sleep tonight, scared of what I might wake up to in the morning :( So far I
haven't lost anything in this tank.
Thanks guys,
John

What do you recommend for how often you feed?
I'm hearing conflicting results so I am thinking of going once a week.
Thoughts?

If you are feeding with shrimp from the deli, take one and cut it up into 5
equal sized pieces. They should be kept frozen. Every three days, thaw a piece
out and put it in the anemone to eat.
If you like Formula One's Frozen cubes, cut it in half and feed that every 3
days. If it is a bigger anemone, you can feed it the entire cube.
Just be sure to thaw it first so it doesn't get rejected by the anemone.

Woke up this morning and anemone #1 had shriveled up into nothing...I guess
I'll let my tank establish a little bit more, get more LR in it, a few
critters for the sand sifting.. :( poor anemone
