this is one of the coolest sites I've ever seen sense I've adopted this
hobby in 1984:
I have a juvenile giant goramy
(http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/osphronemus_goramy.htm). It's
about 5 1/2" long. It's already the king of the tank. Most of the time
it's gray/silver w/ black stripes. When it's feeding time it turns
almost black as it gets excited trying to eat all the food and chancing
others away from the top of the tank. nothing to aggressive mind you.
so, as I sit reading I happen to glance up at the tank and notice my
G.Goramy pure white and completely vertical with it's nose facing down
and it's tail straight up. I've had this fish for 4 months and have
never seen this before. pure white, nose straight down, not moving. I
thought for sure it was dead, sick or something.
about about 15 sec of looking at this guy s/he started to spin very
slowly until I noticed the other side of the fish. this is when I
noticed a clown loach cleaning the his side.
right away I knew that the goramy was not dead/sick but enjoying being
cleaned? craziest thing I've ever seen. the clown looked quite happy as
well. nothing like some fresh goramy slime I guess :-P Mmmmm.
1) i didn't know that fresh watter fish did this type of thing. I knew
that some sharks and other big sea dwelling fish/whales have cleaning
partners.
2) no idea that the G Goramy turned pure white
3) The G.Goramy is from S.E. Asia and C.Loaches are from Borneo,
Sumatra, India so I'm sure this doesn't happen in the wild.. at least
not w/ this fish combo.
I'm going to try and get a pic of this in action.. if I ever do I'll
share w/ you all :)
