Hey all, i need some help...again! I just purchased some LR from my LFS and it came with some "creatures" im not too sure what they are. Maybe some of your expertise can help me. I attached the photos on here, so i hope this works. If not, ill have to find another way to show u the pics.

Pic #1) I think it is a brittle starfish, but im not sure. If it is, will it grow to be any bigger b/c i have about 20 that came in/on the rock

Pic #2) Possibly some sort of starfish? I have 2 so far, one with all its arms and one with 3 full arms and what looks like 3 or 4 stubs. Their color is kinda greyish brown with redish marks on it

Pic #3) Have no clue about this one, except that it has a clearish white bubble like bottom and it moves very slowly

Pic #4) theres quite a few of these things, they have the same clearish white bubble like bottom and they move very slowly, they are also a neon green color when the actinics or moon lights are on. i have tons of these on the rocks

Pic #5) this might be another type of starfish, its white unlike the ones in pic #2, with a redish pink dot in the center of it.

All these hitchhikers are very small...mostly a little bit bigger than the size of a pencil eraser. Please help if you can!! Im curious to know if any of these things will cause problems for me in the future.

Thanks,
BLONDIE!

Okay, so the 4th pic isnt the best in the world, but the blur of color is the live rock that the brown things are on. anyway, there are 4 other pics of things that im not 100% sure what they are. I still need some help with identifying those.

There is only one picture on that page, and it's nothing

Not that I'm going to be of any help to you but I can only see one
picture which looks to be of live rock with two olive green spots on it.
There are no other pics.

Hi Blondie,

The problem with your links not showing up appears to have to do with
the way you read and post to this newsgroup. Since RAMR is a Usenet
Newsgroup, most people access it through some sort of news server.
Apparently you're reading and posting via a web based mirror service
and that fact is somehow causing your links to not show up for most of
us. [Note that the link that DID show up was the last of the group that
you included.]

I'm posting a link to your post as it showed up on
fishkeepingbanter.com :

http://www.fishkeepingbanter.com/showthread.php?t=26717

Hopefully those people who so wish can access your links this way.

How do they do that - get our newsgroup to appear in a forum? It's sort
of odd to know that what you write appears in places other than where
you think it does. I've discovered the same thing with alt.comp.freeware

Hey Alex, Thank you sooo much for your help with this. I didnt know that there was a difference in how people viewed the site. Im still a little confused on the whole usenet thing, but now i know for the future why my links dont work the way that i see them when i log on. Also, thank you for posting a link that people can go on to hopefully view the pics. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT! If you hadnt told me i never wouldve known what the problem was.
Thanks So Much Again.

Hi Miskairal,

I don't know the specifics but I've been assured that mirroring a
Usenet Group or a Mailing List is not technically difficult.

The ethics of it are a little weird though. On the one hand, none of us
post to groups such as this with any idea of financial gain so if our
posts get a wider distribution without our permission there has been
nothing lost. On the other hand sites such as fishkeepingbanter are
apparently using our posts with the intent of profiting by such use
through ad sales. On yet another hand if one of us asks a question on
RAMR and receives a useful answer from a mirror reader then we have
gained by the mirror's existence. One more hand - Many of the big ISP's
such as Netscape, AOL, and (I think) MSN don't support Usenet so
without Web based services such as fishkeepingbanter and Google Groups
we would be faced with an ever dwindling pool of information.

BTW: I participate on several Cephalopod discussion groups so the use
of more than two hands doesn't bother me a bit!

Ethically yours,

Alex

Thanks Wayne! I was thinking that that was what they may be but wasnt sure since they move around the tank and another polyp that i have stays in one place all the time. Can you see the other pics yet? If so, any idea on what they might be...i mean, i know that some are starfish, but they are sooo small and was wondering if they will grow at all.

already is.

Thanks Wayne! I was thinking that that was what they may be but wasnt
sure since they move around the tank and another polyp that i have
stays in one place all the time. Can you see the other pics yet? If so,
any idea on what they might be...i mean, i know that some are starfish,
but they are sooo small and was wondering if they will grow at all.
Thanks again for your help.

Well the unidentified picturs are some kind of polyp,
posibly button polyps. That other picture is much better,
but it's not a close up. Don't you wish all cameras did
macros :-)

Hey Alex, Thank you sooo much for your help with this. I didnt know
that
there was a difference in how people viewed the site. Im still a
little
confused on the whole usenet thing, but now i know for the future why
my links dont work the way that i see them when i log on. Also, thank
you for posting a link that people can go on to hopefully view the
pics. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT! If you hadnt told me i never wouldve
known what the problem was.
Thanks So Much Again.

Hi Blondie,

The problem with your links not showing up appears to have to do with
the way you read and post to this newsgroup. Since RAMR is a Usenet
Newsgroup, most people access it through some sort of news server.
Apparently you're reading and posting via a web based mirror service
and that fact is somehow causing your links to not show up for most
of
us. [Note that the link that DID show up was the last of the group
that
you included.]

I'm posting a link to your post as it showed up on

Hopefully those people who so wish can access your links this way.

Interfacelessly yours,
