i have a sump full of live rock and skimmer. i've ditched the sponges,
ceramic media and bio-balls and have three chambers full of live rock.
My tank is a 40G tank lit by florescent tubes (MH only caused heartbreak and
algae, lots of algae). Now i want to add some calerpa to keep the nitrates
under control. i tried this a while back and the calerpa just roted away
even with 24/7 lighting in the sump.
What can i do to ensure that the same wont happen again. I'm tempted to put
the MH in the sump chambre to ensure enough light gets to it but is this a
good idea, would 14000K be unsuitable for calerpa.
the flow in the sump is controlled by a RIO 1700 return pump so too much
flow sholud not be a problem.
some calerpa flourished until my yellow tang finally sussed out what it was
and made short work of it.
any suggestion of a method of keeping it in the main tank but some sort of
barrier to keep the tang away.
TIA

Well if you have them growing in the calerpa, the tangs
will tend to ignor the calerpa because they realy don't
like sticking their noses in the aiptasia's stinging
tentecles, but of course you don't want aiptasia in your
tank either :-)
