View Full Version : Frozen seafood for our fish........
Koi-lo

The Asian food stores here sell frozen bags of mixed seafood, excellent for
our koi and goldfish for around $2.49 lb. These bags contain squid, clams,
shrimp, octopus, mussels and other delights. I use a straight edge razor to
cut them in bite size pieces while still almost frozen, rinse and feed. :-)
The frozen seafood's in the pet shops are much more expensive and are mostly
water when thawed.

very good idea.

I was also wondering about canned fish. The mackerel, tuna and salmon you
see in the grocery stores?!?!?! It's just about pure protein. I think I'll
start experimenting.

I use those regularly since the Asian store opened. Have you tried the
canned fish or shrimp?

Did it cause a problem with water quality in any way?

Have you experienced any liver damage to FW fish consuming marine seafood?
Many marine species experience liver complications when fed a diet of FW
live foods.

I don't feed it to them enough for something like that. I consider a treat
once or twice a week.

Hello guys
Here's a tip for you. As a rule you should feed marine fish/critters to
freshwater fish and freshwater fish get fed to marine fish. Never same same.
Don't feed your freshwater fish freshwater fish :)

If they're canned or "processed" in some way there wouldn't be a disease
problem.

Not so far. This isn't fed as the main dish, but as a treat several times a
week. I also understand the commercial fish foods we buy for our FW fish
are made with SW fish, not FW fish. If this is true then they're getting SW
fish products every day anyway.
