HI
I am making plans for building a 405g plywood and acrylic aquarium. What
have others used for inside paint? Marine Epoxy all has a high
(anti-fowling) Copper Content. Can you recommend a manufacture and paint
name?
Thanks, I will keep everyone updated with pictures and such when I get
started.

I use Cameleon Epoxy, but almost any will do.
Tell the supplier that you are building the tank to store drinking water and
are looking for an Epoxy Paint suitable for pottable water.
There are different types of Epxoy Paints and any will do, provided there
are no additional nasty additives. By specifying "for use with potable
water" you are guaranteeing a safe product.
As far as you are concerned, the difference will be in the "thickness" of
the paint. Some paints are really thick and will leave brush marks on the
surface. If you are only painting the interior of the tank, then these
brush marks are okay - and two layers of the paint leaves a really thick,
hard surface.
If you are painting the outside as well, you might look foir a paint that
flows better. Alternatively, you can water it down with Epoxy Thinner.
You can get get either clear or coloured Epoxy paint.
If you want to get really fancy, you can use ordinary housepaint and try
painting a nice blue background on the wall of the tank and then paint a few
plants in different shades of green. You can then cover the housepaint with
clear Epoxy paint.

Your tank will last longer if you use marine plywood (not treated plywood) and
or use a product called glov-it to coat the wood before you paint it with the
epoxy. I have a 125 gallon plywood tank that is 20 years old and still going
strong!
remove nospam from e-mail to send to me, I grow trees in aquariums like bonsai.
I breed dwarf crayfish, great for planted community tanks. If you can get me a
shovelnose sturgeon fingerling (Scaphirhynchus platorynchus) no wild caught
please, contact me
