Hi all

I was very excited this morning to find that my pond Apple or Mystery snails
had laid eggs! Unfortunately I only found this out because my dog, in a fit
of pique over me leaving him home to run down the shops, had decided to
rearrange the pond while I was away.

While there is a batch of eggs floating around the pond & I've pretty much
written them off as lost, there is a bigger bunch still attached to a stick
I placed leaning into the pond hoping to attract frogs. Trouble is I don't
know where these eggs would be best placed. I tried to place the stick
exactly back where it had been before the dog's rearrangement, but don't
know how far out of the water the eggs should be. They're currently about
2cm out of the water & are receiving a little direct sunlight.

Is there anyway I can preserve the eggs floating around? I tried attaching
them to a rock but they wouldn't stick.

I've read that commercially they are suspended in a net above the
water, so that when they hatch the young fall into the water. I also
believe that the water has to be free of anything that could prey on
the young snails. I further believe that not all snail egg batches
are fertile. I had one sanil once that laid eggs, but none hatched.
