View Full Version : Quick question

Sorry this question is sooo boring and probably been asked a hundred
times. Well actually I have a couple of questions:-)
Firstly, ammonia, Nitrates and Nitrites have been the same readings for
1 week. Amonnia is 0.5, Nitrites 0.25 and Nitrates 10. Feels like I'm
so close to finishing this cycle malarky and then we have just stopped
short. What can I do?
Secondly, looked at my black moor this morning, who is very patiently
waiting to go into the 'cycled tank' to find he has a 'silver patch'.
Doesn't look like Ich from what i've seen. It is just a tiny bit down
from his dorsal fin. Looks almost like 'dry skin'. I know that some
black moors go a goldish colour but this is definatley silver-grey. He
is currently in a 1 gallon tank which is cycled. Water is changed
regularly and levels are good. Any suggestions?
Lastly, my baby (pearlscale) has what looks like a scale sticking out.
I know he is a pearlscale and this happens but it only happend today
and all of the other scales are a roundish shape but none stick out
from his body. I suppose he could have knocked it on somthing. He
also is very red under one gill. I've seen pictures of fish who have
this and have seen many in petshops. The other gill is ok. He has
been like this since we got him back in Nov but it just seems to be a
bit darker red.
Sometimes I find the fish more worrying than my daughter. Suppose she
can tell me when she a problem
Thank you all so much for your help. Hopefully one day I can return the
favour.

Nothing. Let nature take it's course. Eventually they will reach zero.
:-)

You can check sites like www.koivet.com and read up on diseases and
parasites. It's hard for someone to diagnose by a description. Pictures
are much better.

change more water and the tank will finish cycling when the bacterial colonies are
large enough.
the silver patch could be oodinium. a dip in Quick cure (like a bath) for an hour
might help. do that 3 days in a row. the sticking out scale could be bigger
problem, red means stressed and/or water toxicity and the scale could mean infection
underneath. might be time to antibiotic FOOD. romet B is good, get it (I think)
