ok i usaly stay in the o's forum, put i wonder down here every once in a
while. i had ask a while back about sexing and breeding platies and got
a pretty good idea on the diference b/t male and female, well while i
was at the hospital about four months ago one of them gave birth. one of
the babies survived and we didn't find it for three months. she hid very
well in a cave, i was just wondering if there was anything i could do to
make them or per say intice them to breed again.

Really surprised that they haven't done it again already. Try a larger
water change than usual. all the fresh water will bring down the Ph and
might create the same condition as spring melt. That is the trick I used
to get my african cichlids in the mood.

They should give birth about once a month or so. Are you sure they fry
aren't being eaten? Do they have enough hiding places such as a good size
clump of hornwart? Are you feeding them enough and a good variety of food?
How about those partial water changes? Are you doing them every week or
two? Are you sure you have a pair? Could they be too old?

What difference does it make who yu are replying to. the person
requesting info is surely smart enough to retreive what info is given
no matter who its addressed to......You wqant to be speciific about
who is being addressed, go join about.com, it should fit your never
ending desires to dominate and moderate.

It has to be said, that I found the post a little confusing as well. It
wasn't immediately obvious to me what advice had been given. I guess it
was the response from "Tank" but I'm still not 100% sure as both the OP
and Tank's posting are marked with the same time from my News Server...
Oh, the joys of Usenet :-)

Oh please. It's called "context" and without it it's hard
to see what you're talking about.
Nobody is trying to "dominate: and "moderate" anything. We're
just trying to understand WTF you're talking about.
Is there a need to be rude?

Gimme a break. If you have a male and female livebearer, they're
breeding. They don't need to be stressed with water changes, pH
changes, cooling or anything else. Most fish (including the parents)
eagerly eat livebearer babies, or the babies get sucked up into the
filter. Put some breeding grass, java moss, hornwort, or any other
fine-leaved real or fake plant in the tank to give the babies a place
to hide. Put a sponge over the filter intake. You'll get some babies
if you don't have hungry loaches or catfish lurking about. Feed them
with crushed flake or frozen baby brine shrimp.
If you *really* want babies, move the mother to a separate, sponge
filtered small tank when she's huge. Give the babies hiding places to
escape Mom, and move her back to the main tank after she gives birth.

:D Just a note for the usernet groupies. The first poster "caboose" is a
member of cichlidfish, there is a link to the newsgroups in our site. To
members of cichlidfish, this site appears just like our forums, so
Caboose and Tank, both didn't understand that the thread as we see it,
is not the same as others on the newsgroups read them. However after the
treatment they have recieved, I am sure you newsgroupies will not have
to worry about them "invading" and asking for some advice again. Which
is a shame, there is such a wide range of ppl to get advice from, in the
newsgroups shame a few odd balls can ruin it.
