View Full Version : Regarding our trolls

I don't know if ANY of the purported posters taking part in the
present troll-threads are real people, or if it's just one or a two
trolls under a variety of guises, and I don't care enough to check,
but if there are any real people taking part, and especially if
there's any real people among those being accused/accusing of
real-world crimes, you might want to contact the authorities.
Seriously. I've seen a lot of trolls, and this troll is particularly
malicious and vile - I wouldn't consider it impossible that it's
real-world dangerous.

IF, as I said, any actual functioning humans are at all involved, and
not just a gaggle of trolls.

I'll now go back to studiously ignoring all troll threads, killfiling
all who participate, and I hope all legitimate posters to r.a.f.m.
follow suit.

That's it in a nutshell. Carol bleating to law enforcement over Usenet.
Of course, her deranged "crusade" to save JWs, who she blames for her
screwed up life, manifests itself in demented ways and we all suffer.

1: The majority of USENET is unmoderated. There are no moderators.
It's public. Self-moderation is about all there is. <g>
2: The rather 'infamous' troll, Carol, uses such a variety of
remailers and strawmen that KF'ing her is an exercise in futility. As
soon as she, and the other sad, pathetic individuals that waste their
lives with this kind of horsesh*t realize that not enough people are
seeing their tripe, they just change accounts.

<shrug>

All you can do is ignore it, and try not to get involved. Or you can
have fun with it. Whatever your preference. :)

You consider posts about aquariums and fish TROLL messages on aquarium
groups? What am I supposed to post about here? Bird watching? Stamp
collecting? Posting about fish and ponds on a pond group is trolling? It
appears you don't understand the meaning of the word. Troll Information:
http://tinyurl.com/9zbh or http://tinyurl.com/d8e4 .

Are you aware of what ISPs or NSPs are? Evidently not. Reading Headers:
http://tinyurl.com/amm9s will teach you how to know who sent what.

Unless you have the logs from the admins who run remailers you have no right
to accuse anyone. After all, for all we know it can be YOU since I see no
on-topic aquarium-related messages from you anywhere.

That is not necessarily true any more. You might want to draw your
attorneys attention to the newly passed Violence Against Women and
Department of Justice Reauthorization Act, specifically section 113.
It's controversial and as yet untested (AFAIK) but to me seem to be
applicable to your situation.

Thank you for this information. I need to know more before making any phone
calls. I'll see if I can locate more information on the net regarding it.

Again, thanks.

It could also be construed to mean only email since an email address is
the electronic equivalent of a telephone number. This is essentially a
broadcast medium.

Not really. It's intended more for blogs and they do mention usenet
posts. There are already laws against crank phone calls, this is to
extend that legislation to specifically include internet fora.

Glad it's not retroactive.

Sincerley,

==========================
I've read several sites. Who would you contact to report the harassment,
either personal or in general for a group when it's happening on Usenet?
Especially when ISPs refuse to do anything about even the worst abuse? The
Police? In which state? What if you don't know what state the offender is
posting from? You may live in Maine and the offender harassing people on
Usenet lives in Iowa - who do you contact? The police in Iowa? I don't
see how this new law is going to stop harassment and abuse of the Internet
unless I missed something on the sites. Unless ISPs are willing to step
forward and do their part as they once did, I can't see this law being much
help.

The biggest question is - who would we call to report abuse and harassment
on these groups right now?
