View Full Version : pump noise

I have an Aqua C Urchin Pro and it's pump, a Mag Drive3 (350gph).
I also have a Mag Drive2 (250 gph) returning the water to a 75g tank.
The skimmer and both pumps are in my sump. It all fits without
forcing anything, but having the two pumps does create a lot of
noise.
Is it feasible to use the Mag Drive 3 with a Y adapter on the outflow to
provide for the return AND the skimmer? Or if the pump isn't sufficient,
what would be an acceptable gph range? The return line is less than 7ft.
Or is this not recommended....
Thanks...Kevin (newb)

No way that would work.
What is the noise specifically? Vibration?
Which pump is the noisier of the two? A Mag 2 as a sump return pump on a 7'
return line sounds way underpowered. I have a Mag 5 on my return pushing up 5'
high and it runs silently.
I've got a Mag 9.5 pushing up 4' on my other tank which is silent as well.
I've got a Mag 5 on a Remora Pro that runs quietly in tank.
And finally I've got a Mag 12 on a EV-200 that runs quietly.
What size is your return line to the tank? You might be restricting flow, btw.

I know it's probably vibration amplified by the pumps
being up against the walls of the sump. It's not at all loud
enough to warrant a larger sump though. I just wanted
to get some experienced advise on whether one higher
rated pump could perform both functions. Thanks
