View Full Version : Wet/Dry making too much noise!

I have a wet/dry sump that has the bio-balls removed ... my problem is
that the falling water is making too much noise. I didn't really
realize it until we had guests over for the holidays ...

My dilemma is as follows:

(a) I can fill more water into the sump, but we lost power twice
during the
past year. Each time we lost power, it was the extra "space" in
the sump
that prevented a flood ...

(b) I can put live rock or something to break the fall of water, but
I'm
worried about the rock being exposed to air

The falling water does help with the aeration (sp?) of the water, so
in one sense I don't want to change it ... but, the noise is actually
pretty bad.

Any suggestions/tips/advice would be appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

Can you get a piece of PVC pipe and extend the water outlet so it doesn't
fall as far? You could probably put it just above you normal water level and
still get the aeration.

Put a piece of base rock under it. It might be exposed to air, but so what?
