I've searched high and low and I cannot seem to find a single 96w 36"
50/50 CSL Smartlight retro kit online anywhere. Even my LFS says they
don't make them, but I thought they do.

I have upgraded my tank from a 25g that had 2x24" 65w PC's (total
130w). I want to simply stagger those two in my new canopy and add one
36" 96w for my new 46g bowfront.

The only way I've found to get this done is to buy individual parts
and DIY. I can get a 96w single ballast, a reflective shield, and a
96w Smartlamp bulb, for a total of about $140, online.

I've heard that Hamilton makes a 96w 36" 50/50 PC retro too...?

If anyone knows of a place that I can get a retro kit and keep it
simple, LMK! Thanks!

Have you checked www.ahsupply.com yet?

Can't go wrong with www.hellolights.com. They have several different
configurations of 96W PC retros and you can choose the 50/50 bulb if you
like. See: http://www.hellolights.com/36retrokits.html. I've ordered lots
of bulbs from these guys and have been very satisfied.

THanks for all the replies!

Bob: Where did you get the CSL retro?

Pszemol: No, I hadn't checked AHSupply, just did. Looks like they
have what I want for under $100. :) Forgive me for my naitivity
about lighting, but is their quality up to par with Hamilton and CSL?
They sound impressive with what they say about their reflector output.

Lee: I looked at your hellolights link, thanks! They have the same
thing for $130, but no on/off switch.

Looks like the bargain is AHSupply here. Thanks so much you guys!!

BTW: Another quick question...I've been out of the loop on current
events with reefkeeping for the last couple years, but both the
recommended sites you mentioned call the lamps "CF" (compact
flourescent) instead of "PC" (power compact). Is this a new term for
the same thing?

Thanks! Dawn

Dawn,

For a switch on mine, I have them on a lamp/appliance timer that also has a
switch. I also have a setup by ahsupply that I run the same way. HTH.

Last I read, Power Compact is a name brand, where CF is the name of the bulb.
Similar to when people asked you if you had a "walkman", they weren't always
referring to a Sony Walkman as much as a small cassette recorder & radio to
listen to when walking/jogging.

The LPS. A buddy of my son just stared his own shop specializing in S/W and
lots of reef stuff.
Sorry can't help you for an online source.
