Ok fishgills, when you order powercompacts from them - who is
the manufacturers? What brand of bulbs are we ordering there?
Have you received "no-name" bulbs in gray boxes with no markings
of manufacturer? Sometimes when you order stuff from these kind of
places you are ordering very cheap, not always conforming stuff.
It is very hard to compare prices for lets say 10k or actinic
96W/36" bulbs made by CustomSeaLife and some "no-name" bulbs
which light spectrum you cannot be sure... I ordered some no-name
actinic bulbs some day (from a different place) and the color
was definitely different, more pinkish than CustomSeaLife bulbs...
The price is very important, but it is not the only thing matters, right?
That is the reason I ask: do you have no-name bulbs or is there
some well-known manufacturer stamped on the boxes?

Thanks for letting us know your experiences.
I just bought 6 55w 50/50 square pin PCs for my 29g (I use three at a time) for $14.99
each. They were on clearance.

Was my suspicion valid? Are they "no-name" bulbs with shifted spectrums?

At best.... with maybe 10-20% output! I am not exaggerating.... I was
literally shocked at how bad. I got a replacement and same thing. First
one burnt out within the first min. Checked all my equipt and it wasn't the
culprit. Cheapos DROVE the replacement, wouldn't ship it. This after I
chased them down and when I had the same problem with the second, although
lasted longer, they ignored my request for a refund. They are made here in
town in the old Army Depot.

I'm really not sure what you mean. You didn't cause any trouble. I just
added my experience. Actually I thought someone asked for it (I was in a
huge hurry and wasn't paying close attention) but on second read I see you
didn't ask for others experience.... so let me give it anyways ;)
Also not sure what you mean by showing your profile??? I just hit the
"reply group" button. Sorry if I inadvertently did something else... please
explain. I recognize that you are trying to help fellow reefers, so am I.
Please don't stop posting here, not trying to run you off. You will find
plenty of people who disagree and have differing experiences. That is
partially what makes these groups valuable..... otherwise we would all have
to rely on LFS lies and misinformation.
