View Full Version : Arrrrr. which skimmer?
January 14th 04, 12:37 AM
Ok here we go 30gal 12x36x16 . I've been out of the hobby a couple years and was always
skimmerless but have decided to use one this time.
Heres the deal I havn't made up my mind on a sump yet so I need a hang on.
my choices seem to be
Prizm (really hot when I crashed)
CPR Bac Pac ( I kinda like this one because of the preskimmer.)
AquaC ( have read good things but no preskimmer and uses a rio pump unless you upgrade)
I plan on ordering something in the next few days so
All thoughts and suggestions are appreciated
Thanks

Get the Aqua C Remora with a MaxiJet 1200. They do sell a surface skimming box, but I run
a sump and don't need it.

Hello,
I have Hang On Berlin Turbo with original turbo pump and 18 blade impeller,
manual, original box for sale. It's about not even 6 months old. I just
upgraded to 120 gal and It's to small for me. I used it on my 55 gal with a
great success.
I will take only $150 for it plus shipping,

Hi Ardyno.
Let me think about it. I pretty much have discounted the cpr because It uses a rio
as does the berlin.
I get shivers just thinking about having a rio in my tank.
At this point I'm really leaning toward the Aqua C with the maxi-jet and Marc was right
the do have a pre-skimmer.
prices seem to be around new $130 for the cpr $160 for the Aqua C and $200 for the Berlin.
We'll as I'm writing this the wife informed me there is a guy in my area selling a new
cpr's for $100 with the bio balls( those will make great cat toys)
I guess she kinda made my mind up for me, no shipping and $30 less than the
best price I could find.
Either way I still hate the thought of using a rio so I'll have to see about changing the
pump.
If your still interested let me know your general location and your the lowest price your
willing to take.

I'm with Marc on the AquaC Remora. That is probably one of the best
quality skimmers out there. If price makes a big difference get the
CPR.

FWIW, I've done a lot of research and just ordered the Urchin Pro(thats the
sump version of the remora) a few hours ago.

John,
You can swap the Rio for a Maxijet 1200, but it will run noisier. And you can modify it with
an additional airpump and wooden airstone to get better skimming.
I bought my Remora (used) for $80 and a Remora Pro (used) for $100. Excellent skimmers, and
quiet. Best part is that I didn't have to modify anything. Hang them on the tank, plug them
in, and they do the rest.
