View Full Version : FOWLR lighting

Hi,
I have a 46gal bowfront FOWLR (naso tang, humu trigger, damsels).
I want to upgrade to a twin tube strip light, mostly for cosmetic reasons,
but if it helps the marine biology, great! My question is what to use for
the second tube. I was planning on Actinic Blue for the second tube (with
10,000K Coralife for the first tube). But would 2 10,000k be better?
Does the actinic help a FOWLR, or is it ONLY a cosmetic preference?
TIA
Phil

For fish, it doesn't really matter. The colors are more for your own personal
preferences. I like to have a balanced light of daylight and actinic. So in
your situation, I'd have one actinic and one 10,000K (or even one 6700K).
Once you have them, you might not like the look. If so, try reversing the order
of the bulbs, moving the blue to the white's position and vice versa and look
again. Usually you'll find the look you like doing that.

Thanks. I've tried 6700K before, didnt like the greenish tinge.
Now I see that for the same price (or less) of a twin tube flourescent fixture (60
watt), I can get a 1 x 96w power compact fixture! But then I'm already halfway to
having reef level lighting, so it seems like an illogical purchase (I'm interested
in eventually converting to a reef with this tank).
Ugh! This hobby is NOT for the indecisive :-)
