I have a Sealife motororized PS in my 37G FOWLR that has never really
produced much foam. My tank has 4 fish, 10 or so red & blue legged hermit
crabs, a couple of sand sifting stars, a couple of Sally Lightfoot crabs,
about 75lbs of LR and 4" of DSB.

First question, is my biofilter enough that my PS just isn't going to
produce much foam or (second question....)

I get foam in my PS but it never get's to the collection cup, instead it
just bubbles about halfway up the tube and stops. The tube gets coated in
dark brown crud but that's as far as it goes. BTW, the skimmer sits in a
5.5G sump. I have tried different water levels but every real high does not
seem to matter. I have even pulled the expansion thing up so that the water
is sitting in the chamber for longer time but I still can't get any kind of
consistent foam production.

Last question, isn't there a modification for the Sealife skimmer to make it
better or should I start researching a new skimmer ?

Thanks in advance,
pb

Sounds to me like the pump driving the skimmer is too small or the air flow
into the skimmer is restricted.

My friend, who works for a wholesaler, said Custom Sea Life is going
out of business.
