View Full Version : Light intensity on the Earth surface

Anybody here has some data for the amount of light that hits
the earth (ocean?) surface in the tropical areas? How much
of that is ultraviolet? How does that compare to amount
of light from MH/HQI bulbs not protected with "UV stop"?
BTW - Does UV penetrate sea water significantly?

I believe it equates to roughly 750 W per square meter
UV does not penetrate water. Like glass, water will block UV.

UV light most certainly will penetrate water. That is how corals get burned with MH
lamps.Glass is not a complete blocker either and Borosilcate Glass blocks UV better than
most other glasses
