I grow phytoplankton, havesting it weekly. You can see it here on this page, after scrolling down some.

A way you might be able to avoid shutting off your skimmer, at least the one
on your 55g would be to plumb in a loop. Depending on how you have the
plumbing rigged, you may only have to insert a T-Joint, a ball-valve, and
length of tubing. This would allow the skimmer to run, but would not draw
any new water into it, just cycle whats currently there. I dont know if it
would be worth the hassle, but your foam would always be there.

I tried loading your page to see how your skimmer was plumbed, but after
fighting against my wifes computer and our dial-up connection for an hour I
had enough.

Is this the page you were trying to see?

http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/tank/55sump.html

The EV-200 is in the sump, with a Mag12 to provide the water. The gate valve on
the skimmer body is submerged 1" beneath the water's surface.

I'm never really concerned about the foam tower, because there are times of day
when I check on it and it is just boiling low in the chamber, not skimming at
all. I think there are times when the skimmer has done all it can with the
water at that point, and waits for the next change to restart the foam (water
tension shift).

I've been lax lately, but I usually clean the reaction chamber and the
collection cup every 3 days.

Yes, thanks to Marc and Flame*Angel I do have a phytoplankton farm that I
just started this week. So far things are going well.

Honestly I do not know. I sent her an email and she responded.
I'm in the Chicago area if that helps.
I got my first batch from my farm the other day. I can see already that I
am going to have way more phytoplankton than I'll be able to use. But that
beats the pants out of payin $20/bottle for it! =)

Aurora is a good cruise from Chicago but there are plenty of places that are
worth a drive. The first one to come to mind is Scott's Pet Shop in
Westchester. Corner of 31st & Wolf Rd. Lots of corals, inverts and some
clams too among other things.

No kidding Rob.. I had no idea! I've seen your site several times but
never noticed the 630 are code. Do you have a storefront? I'd love to come
by and check the place out. What town are you in?

TIA
