Almost 3 months ago I inherited several pieces of live rock that was from a
dead system, but still running. The details was ammonia, nitrite, nitrate
was off the charts, SG was way low as to be non-existant. Lights were not
run on the system, even though they had them. Water levels were way low from
constant evaporation.

Any way, in one piece of live rock was a tiger tail cucumber. He was still
alive when the rest of the inhabitants, several fish snails and crabs, were
dead. He was about 2 inches in length (i had seen him over 8 before)
sticking out of a piece of rock.

I placed the rock in my system and he has grown to about 5 inches now. The
rock he is in is atop another rock and is about 6 inches above the
substrate.

My question is, isnt he supposed to be a sand sifter? He doesnt go into the
substrate. Can I expect him to do that? Should I remove him from the rock
carefully and place him on the sand?

Best regards,

Rick

Yes, they do sift sand. They are very light and relatively delicate, so put it
somewhere on the sand where it won't be blown around. Mine likes to hug rock
when it stretches out, for an achor.

Btw, mine split and I have one in the fuge as well. :)
