Is the red coloured alge that is growing on my sandy substraight a good
thing for the tank ?, it looks good and helps to keep the stuff from blowing
around the tank. Also in 2 sections of it are some small pink/purple
coloured flowers growing.

It's not usually a good thing, unless you're a critter that likes to eat the
stuff. My guess is its about to get worse before it gets better. I got
impatient and installed a blue cheek goby. Cute chap who farms the tank like
his own. He does however throw sand all over the lower layers of the tank.
Some people have problems with them starving after they've cleaned the tank
up. Mine is still happy 5 months on, and fatter than ever.
..
They're also not such a good idea if you're looking to maintain a deep sand
bed.
He kinda rules the tank too...

The guy from across the road from my place came over for a visit, turns out
he used to work in a marine wholesale shop, he looked at the tank and said
it's brown alge and looked over the tank and gave it the thumbs up. He did
say to put in a clean up crew soon..

To add to the alge growth, there is yellow'ish and green'ish blotches
apearing too. Is that all apart of the coroline stuff ?
