Can corals thrive in a zero nitrate environment???

Corals are both Flora and Fauna, Flora because of the Zooanthalia, a type of
algae, and nitrates are food for algae, is it possible for Zooanthalia to
thrive in a Zero nitrate environment?

Are moderate nitrates a bad thing? (20-30ppm)

Garden plants need both nutrients (nitrates) and lighting to grow, are
corals exempt from this rule?

Moderate nitrates are not a bad thing. Mine tend to stay between 10-20 ppm.
No animal has complained yet. :)
