Hi,
My angelfish has developed some sort of damage to its skin between his
mouth and eye. The best way to describe it is in that area there is
no skin and you can see the flesh (meaty part) of the fish. He is
alone in a 55 gal tank with salinity s.g. of 1.024. The fish refuses
to eat any frozen food and is on flake food. I give him formula one
and two. I have treated the tank with melafix a few times with no
effect. I would appreciate any suggestion.

Thank you
Al

Hi Al,

Any idea how the fish got that way? My Coral Beauty looked like that, but over
90% of the 'head' area. The tank it was in had nitrates over 200ppm. It has
been 14 months, and only about 5% of that damage is still visible.

A healthy diet and good water quality seems to be the best cure of all.

Hi Marc,
I would not say that my water is perfect, but my nitrate is 15-20 ppm.
I think the problem is the diet. But he doesn't eat any of the
frozen food that I give him!

Hi Al,

Your nitrates sound fine. Hmm. Any chance you've got stray current leaking into your
tank? You can check that with a common voltage meter.

Keep trying to vary the diet each day. For example, the LFS will have at least 7 different
frozen foods. Use one cube (or half a cube) each evening. If the fish doesn't eat it, it
will get hungrier. Eventually it will decide to eat what it finds, and you can take note of
the food it selected.

Because I make my own food with about 12 items, there is always a little bit of everything
for everyone in there. And they don't seem too picky when it hits the water.
